Personally, basketry has allowed me to develop from flat handwoven interior fabrics to three-dimensional shapes. Previously, my focus was with baskets woven with hand dyed reed and local natural materials such as black ash, cedar bark, birch bark, cattails and sweet grass. More recently, the exploration of the technique of double wall baskets and the introduction of bamboo, archival paper and metal into the baskets has been a focus for the past few years.


Currently, I am experimenting with the somewhat new technique of silk fusion in an otherwise ancient craft of basketry. There is a strong influence of Japanese and North American basketry techniques and shapes in my work. I consider my work to be a combination of a traditional craft and a contemporary art form. I view the finished piece, not as an end in itself, but as a beginning for another basket. Thus, the creative process continues.
